| - The following report aims to publish the results of the study for the implementation of a solar drying system to support a conventional system fed by LPG in a walnut treatment plant. The project is located in the commune of Requínoa, Región del Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins, Chile. It currently has a drying area that has 8 tanks with 4.000 kg of capacity each. These tanks are arranged in two groups of 4 tanks each, with a dryer each group, being fed by natural gas oil (LPG). The drying process takes place between April 15 and May 15, approximately, projecting to dry 150 tons of nuts per year. The objective of the project is to determine the feasibility of supporting the drying process with non-conventional renewable energy, considering technical and economic elements. To study the impact, the energy requirement is calculated in the scenario without solar collector and then with the contribution of this; determining percentage of gas saved in the scenario with collector, to know the economic contribution of the system. At last, you can observe the installation of a solar dryer through an active solar roof, because by itself, the ASR (Active Solar Roof) is able to heat the air to the required temperature, if it obtains an adequate level of radiation, it can also exceed this level, so it is required a regulation of the heat that the system generates. The solar system to support the nuts tempering itself, is composed of a double thermal camera arranged on the roof of the slaughter house. The black color of its base allows it to attract the solar radiation and trap its thermal capacity inside this air collector. This configuration allows a series of hydraulically and thermally balanced channels to be arranged, so when activating the fans that take the air to the drying chambers, they extract the direct air from the solar roof, taking advantage of its temperature. The conventional gas system is modulating, therefore, they contribute temperature by burning gas, depending on the input air temperature. When the air comes preheated by the sun, the contribution of gas is reduced, or eliminated, allowing economic benefits, such as resources and burning of fossil fuels.
